The Golden Benanas were created by an endowment from beloved railway tycoon Ben King, who established the awards to honour the arts and sciences upon his death in 1971.
Due to a bureaucratic mix-up, the endowment is now managed by an unrelated person with the same name. He uses the awards to list his favourite things in any given year.
