(Nick Hune-Brown, from "All Our Happy Days Are Stupid", embarrasses himself by jumping on stage and celebrating before realizing that his play lost to "Venus in Fur". The Fur sits nearby, patiently waiting to speak.)

Silver Benana – All Our Happy Days Are Stupid (Suburban Beast)

Bronze Benana – The Book of Mormon (Mirvish)

Given the absolute dominance of musicals this year, it’s a bit surprising that a non-musical won the Golden Benana. The explanation for how this happened is a bit complicated and technical, but I think I can sum it up with an analogy – basically, “Venus in Fur” is Stephane Dion, and my heart is the 2006 Liberal Party leadership delegation.

7. Avenue Q (Lower Ossington Theatre)
8. Tommy (Stratford)
9. The Merchant of Venice (Stratford)
10. The Musical of Musicals: The Musical (Vintage Productions – Fringe)
